British Rail network became rail track in 1994, and since then the network has got worse. We all moaned about B. R. late running trains and old stock, but what was really wrong with B. R. was bad management and under investment by the government of the time. This led to the deterioration of the infrastructure, and now we have rail track in charge and nothing has changed except they get more money than B. R. and they don’t build trains like B. R. and they still can’t maintain and upgrade the net work.

So has privatisation really worked for Briitish Rail? I don’t think so and now they want to do the same with the underground network. If rail track are having problems getting investment from banks and the private sector, how does the government expect the same to work for the underground which has sufferd the same fate as British Rail over years, now we are left with a network which is falling apart. As I type this the Victorians who built our rail network would turn in their graves if they knew what the governments over the years have done to our transport system. Too much money has been spent on building roads while our rail infrastructure over ground and under was left to rot in favour of cars.

I believe that selling the network of the underground will not work, let’s face it, when rail track has failed to deliver, why should we expect the same to work for the underground? It should be given to Bob Kiley to run and Public bonds backed by the government should fund the system.
