New York s latest next big thing...
THE BRAVERY is the closest contender of THE KILLERS. If only the latter had that Synthetic depth... If only the former were that Pop...That would be the electric dream of New New Wave of the New Wave!
The nuyorican outfit (Sam Endicott - vocals/guitar, John Conway - keyboards, remember, keybords on the forefront, Anthony Burulcich - organic drums, Michael Zakarin - guitar) and Mike H. - bass) was ignited in early 2003. By 2005, MTV and the sorts were claiming them to be 'NY s next big thing'. Oh really? They don t give a damn. At least until today, even with a Billboard 18th position for the eponymous debut. Even with YEAH YEAH YEAHS and CLAP YOUR HANDS SAY YEAH on the neighborhod. Yeah!
THE BRAVERY is hot fuss (no puns intended). Quirky synths, dramatic vocals, fluid guitars, virtual drums and basses. Most noticeable, terrific beats. It would be tremendous in early 1981. In early 2006, it is just what NEW ORDER is trying to retrospectively sound like. That says a lot hum?
Unconditional (with An Honest Mistake, acoustic, on the flipside) was their latest single, released August 21st 2005. The title track is just what THE FUTUREHEADS would like to be in a couple years - a grittier, down-to-Earth ensemble, with livelier, tremendous tormented vocals. And even this said, pretty beats. 'I just want, I just want, I just want love, I just want something, I just want something', this is ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN meeting SPANDAU BALLET on the next balcony.
An Honest Mistake originally was a shamelessly impeccable remake of NEW ORDER s Primitive Notion with Julian Casablancas on the mic. Barely acoustic, it sounds nowhere near FRENTE! s Bizarre Love Triangle. But it still satisfices, in a warped sense (of humor). And the lyrical fervor is still intact!
So? Try a little tenderness. Give THE BRAVERY a digital spin! See ya.
